What is DSC renewal?

DSC renewal is the process of re-issuing a Digital Signature Certificate when its validity period (typically 1, 2, or 3 years) is about to expire, ensuring uninterrupted access to government and corporate portals.

Renewal should be started before expiry so signing on MCA, GST, Income Tax and e-Tendering portals does not fail near a filing deadline.

If the token is lost, the holder's name has changed or the old certificate has already expired, a fresh issuance workflow may be more suitable than renewal.

FAQ

DSC Renewal FAQs

Self-contained answers about DSC renewal, documents, pricing, validity and portal use.

Fast answersExpert support
  • You can apply after expiry, but it may be treated like a fresh issuance depending on the Certifying Authority and token status.
  • You should begin renewal around 30 days before expiry so filing and tender deadlines are not interrupted.
  • A new token may not be required if the existing token is compatible and working, but a lost or damaged token usually needs replacement.
  • Class 2 DSC is no longer issued. Renewal or fresh issuance will move to Class 3 DSC under current standards.
  • Renewal may be cheaper when the same token can be reused. If a new token is needed, pricing can be similar to a fresh DSC.
  • If your legal name or PAN details changed, the application may need corrected KYC and may be processed as fresh issuance.
  • Most complete renewal cases can be processed the same day or within 1 working day after verification.
  • No. Once expired, a DSC is not valid for signing or authentication on government portals.
  • In many cases yes, but token compatibility and certificate details must be checked before proceeding.
  • After issuance, token drivers and portal utilities may still need setup before MCA or GST accepts the renewed DSC.
